What is PreTox?
PreTox is a system for removing lead-based paint cost
effectively, without generating a hazardous waste. Using the
Best Demonstrated Available Technology as outlined by the EPA,
PreTox effectively stabilizes waste generated in the removal
process, rendering it non-hazardous by current RCRA criteria,
thus saving contractors and facility owners who generate
hazardous waste money on disposal costs, as well as limiting
long-term liability. It is compatible with all coatings removal
processes including recyclable and non-recyclable abrasive
blasting, power tools, chemical stripping, sponge blasting, and
almost any other removal method.
Why do I need it?
Because the necessity of disposing of hazardous waste in a safe
manner that protects the environment concerns us all, compliance
with state and federal regulatory bodies has become difficult,
time consuming, and
expensive.
Why PreTox?
PreTox aids in the non-hazardous rendering of lead-based paint
waste for disposal. Debris is thus considered a non-hazardous
waste since the lead in the paint removed has been chemically
stabilized.
Does PreTox have a primary function?
Yes. To ensure adequate control of lead leachability.
The effectiveness of PreTox greatly depends on the integration
of the product with the paint residue. Only sufficient
application of PreTox can ensure this control. PreTox does
not render lead-based paint non-toxic but rather reduces the
paint waste leachability making it safer for disposal.
What are social responsibilities related to lead based paint
waste?
It is important to sample and test all waste streams in
accordance with Federal, State or Local regulations particular
to your area. To further understand the Regulatory Status of
Generated Waste consult Federal and State EPA Guidelines. In
addition local regulations should be checked. When in doubt,
contact your local branch office of the EPA.
